JAMES QUINCY JONES, Master Chief Petty Officer, United States Navy
Command Master Chief, Navy Special Warfare Command

Master Chief Petty Officer James Jones is a native of the Florida. He entered the United States Navy in March 1979 and attended boot camp at Navy Recruiting Training Center in Great Lakes, Illinois. He entered the UDT/SEAL pipeline and successfully completed Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL Training Class 118 in May of 1982. His duty rotations included SEAL Teams 1 and 7. After 15 years as a SEAL Operator, he volunteered and was selected as an AD Trainer for the UDT/SEAL Training Program. Master Chief Jones’ other duty stations include CMC of Naval Special Warfare Development Group and responsible for enlisted leadership development, well-being, monitoring and mentoring the sailors of that force.
Master Chief Jones was selected as Naval Special Warfare Force Command Master Chief in 2009 and assigned to Naval Special Warfare Command where he currently serves as principle enlisted adviser to the Commander of Navy Special Warfare Command. During his career he has attended numerous service schools Army Airborne School, Naval Special Warfare Diving Supervisor School, Static line and Free Fall Jumpmaster School, Multiple demolition schools, Range Safety Officer School, DLI Language School, SASR Climbing and Rope Instructor School, the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy and The National Defense University’s Keystone Joint Senior Enlisted Course.
Master Chief Jones has a Master of Arts Degree in Linguistics from the University of California at San Diego. During his tenure, he has received service decorations and awards for Operation Urgent Fury, Operation Just Cause, Operation Desert Storm, Operation Restore Hope, and Operation Enduring Freedom.
Irene Reyes-Ortiz
Principle, Victoria East High School
Irene Reyes Ortiz is a native of Corpus Christi, Texas. She graduated Valedictorian at West Oso High School in Corpus Christi. Upon graduation, Irene attended St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas where she graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology. She continued her education at the University of Houston where she graduated with a Master of Science degree in Microbiology. While attending the U of H she met and married her husband of thirty-three years, David Ortiz. Later Mr. and Mrs. Ortiz returned to David’s hometown of Victoria, Texas. Irene received her teaching certification and began teaching Science at Howell Middle School in Victoria. During her tenure at Victoria Independent School District, Mrs. Ortiz became the Vice Principle at Cade Middle School, Principle of DeLeon Elementary School and ended a stellar career in education as Principle at Victoria East High School.
Her professional affiliations include, past President of the Victoria Library Foundation, past Director of the DARE program, Board Member of the Historic Victoria Main Street Board, founding member and past Secretary of the Hispanic Business and Professional Woman’s Association, and past President of the Victoria Education Foundation. Mrs. Ortiz’s professional awards include NASA’s Teacher of the Year, National Science Foundation Educator of the Year, and the Texas Association of School Board’s Educator of the Year.
